Italian experimental artist Stefano Attuario makes a powerful return with his new single Insetti, a haunting and symbolic track that dives headfirst into the contradictions of modern life. Marked by striking sonics and deeply evocative lyrics, Insetti explores themes of alienation, oppression, and the relentless pursuit of personal freedom—strongly inspired by Franz Kafka’s iconic novella The Metamorphosis.
Serving as a preview for his upcoming album Babel, Insetti reinforces Attuario’s ongoing fascination with Kafkaesque themes, while also drawing influence from the surrealist edge of William S. Burroughs. The song’s central metaphor—the insect—represents the degradation of the individual in a society that marginalizes those who challenge the status quo.
But Insetti goes beyond societal critique. It reflects on personal and familial alienation, confronting the internal conflicts and isolation that arise when one's identity is suppressed or misunderstood. Much like the characters in Kafka and Burroughs’ works, Attuario’s lyrical persona grapples with invisible yet overwhelming forces of control.
Despite its dark atmosphere, Insetti holds a powerful undercurrent of liberation. The recurring line “I can breathe” acts as a mantra of resistance—an emotional release that asserts the right to exist, feel, and evolve, even in the face of a dehumanizing world.
As a teaser for Babel, Insetti hints at an album rich in symbolism, sonic experimentation, and social commentary. Attuario transforms the chaos of contemporary life into an immersive sonic experience, challenging conventions and inviting listeners to reflect on the fractured reality around them.
