On the anniversary of the Carnation Revolution, Tsunamiz — the alter ego of Portuguese artist Bruno Sobral — drops “Free and Young”, a powerful and explosive new single that fuses electronic beats, alternative rock energy, and sharp-edged social critique into a rallying cry for those hungry for change.
Featuring guest vocals from Miguel Leonardo, the track is a generational scream: a wake-up call for anyone caught in the sweet illusions and void leadership of today’s world. With hypnotic lyrics like“The leaders don’t have your back / So you can start again”,the song echoes a deep urgency — a reminder that we still have time to change the course, while we’re still free and young.
More than just a song, “Free and Young” is a cultural and political statement, purposefully released on April 25th, the date Portugal regained its freedom in 1974. In a time where many fear the ideals of that historic moment are under threat, Tsunamiz channels the restless spirit of the post-2020 generation into a track built to shake minds and move bodies.
Written and produced independently by Tsunamiz, and co-written with Miguel Leonardo, the single is the result of years of creative perseverance.“I never had the money to pay someone to produce my music, so I had to learn how to do it myself — through trial, error, and persistence,” says Bruno.
“Free and Young” walks a fine line between pop and punk, danceable and disruptive, grounded in the raw streets of Portugal’s South Bank with one foot on the dance floors of Berlin and London. It’s a song made to scream, dance, and finally wake up.
