The band Sorry for Interrupting presents their new single, “Closer 2,” a track that captures raw emotion and sonic honesty in its most direct form. True to the project's proposal, the song was recorded spontaneously, in a single take, preserving imperfections and the energy of the moment.

For the band, excessively polishing or perfecting a track can end up stripping it of its humanity. This is precisely why both the previous release, “Lookout Below,” and the new one, “Closer 2,” were recorded all at once. The result is an immediate sound, slightly chaotic and full of personality—faithfully reflecting the emotional state in which the songs were created.

The single's production also has a curious story. In search of an intense yet controlled drum sound, the group found inspiration in a “metal shanty” (a kind of sea shanty with the weight of metal) discovered on a music forum. The idea was to achieve an atmosphere similar to that of albums like You Forgot It In People by Broken Social Scene, Silent Alarm by Bloc Party, and Boxer by The National.

This is how the collaboration with James, nicknamed “the pirate drummer,” came about. He agreed to participate in the project despite living in another country and never having spoken with the band before.

The recording followed the same simple and direct philosophy that defines the project. When he asked how he should mic the drums, James received an unexpected instruction: use the exact same equipment used to record guitar and vocals.
