Oikoumen releases “Reign of Idiocy,” a symphonic and orchestral metal track that confronts the trauma of bullying through the eyes of its victim. The song delivers an intense and visceral emotional journey, blending grand orchestral arrangements, energetic riffs, and impassioned vocals that erupt like a tear-soaked cry of resistance and pain.

“Reign of Idiocy” is the first single from Oikoumen’s upcoming album Resilience, scheduled for release in April. The album explores childhood trauma and the lasting scars it leaves behind, transforming deeply personal experiences into a powerful sonic narrative.

Oikoumen is a human-centered orchestral progressive metal project. Its name, derived from Ancient Greek meaning “the inhabited world,” reflects its core mission: to explore the human condition in both emotional and tangible, real-world dimensions. The project channels visceral emotions—often dark, always sincere—through intense, embodied music in which the orchestra serves as a vehicle for emotion rather than mere ornamentation.

After evolving through several incarnations, Oikoumen has found its true identity beyond genre constraints and established codes. Positioned within orchestral progressive metal and bordering on symphonic metal without fully adopting its conventions, the project delivers epic, groove-driven, and energetic music with a strong, committed artistic voice.

Musically, Oikoumen draws inspiration from classic metal acts such as Nightwish, Stratovarius, Iron Maiden, and Pink Floyd, while embracing modern progressive influences like Leprous, Meshuggah, Dream Theater, and Jinjer. Its melodies and orchestrations are influenced by 19th-century Romanticism—particularly Ernest Chausson, Pablo de Sarasate, and Claude Debussy—while also incorporating ethereal influences from artists such as Kate Bush, Andreas Vollenweider, and Loreena McKennitt.
