Electricjezus — the sludge/doom duo known for carving their own path through the Russian heavy underground — return with Colossus, their most cohesive, concept-driven, and fully realized album to date. Released on December 1, 2025, the record distills more than a decade of evolution, experimentation, and existential exploration into a singular, uncompromising statement.
The origins of Electricjezus stretch back to 2012, when the band first emerged with a raw demo EP composed entirely of rehearsal recordings. At the time, they had never performed live — a testament to the organic, self-contained world in which the project was born.
Following their 2013 debut album Грязь поколений (Mud of Generations) and a split EP with The Grayscales, Electricjezus quickly embedded themselves in Moscow’s sludge/stoner scene. Their second full-length, Котлован (The Foundation Pit), and a subsequent split with the Moscow band ИЛ expanded their presence further, positioning them firmly within the landscape of Russia’s modern heavy underground.
In 2019, the band self-released Смех (Laugh), an album that stepped away from their established sound, revealing a more experimental and introspective side — a hint of the creative transformation yet to come.
Colossus is built around a single overarching idea: the cycle of human life viewed through the lens of philosophical pessimism. Across the album’s movements, the listener is taken through birth into chaos, decay, confrontation with absurdity, and an eventual slow, reluctant reconciliation with fate.
Crushing, slow-motion riffs; a raw, unadorned production; and a visceral, screaming vocal performance all serve to amplify the album’s stark lyrical themes. The result is a dense and immersive experience — one that balances dread, catharsis, and a strange, purifying clarity.
