Dutch alternative metalcore band Unnerve returns with their sophomore EP Prosperity, a blistering four and a half-track EP, building further on their unique blend of chaotic hardcore and groovy nu-metal.
Sonically, Prosperity marks a shift from their more mathcore oriented debut EP turmoil, released in 2024. While it is still an obvious aspect of their sound, the band put more focus on groove for this release, making for a more nuanced and balanced sound without it taking away from the intensity. With this EP the band brings 18 minutes of relentless emotion, mixing pure aggression with catchy melancholic passages, leaving the listener to an intense but cathartic experience.
Prosperity pulls no punches in its lyrical focus, tackling a specific set of issues. Political and corporate corruption, systematic wealth inequality and the deep fractures being sown between people by those in power. “There are certain systemic societal issues that are dear to me and make me very angry.” Says vocalist Dennis den Ouden. “They bring a certain fuel to write meaningful lyrics that serve the aggressive nature of our music.”
