Detroit punk rockers The Lowcocks return with THE FORGOTTEN - an audacious, plucky, politically charged punk manifesto. Filled with gritty DIY style, incisive lyrics, and nonstop energy, the EP affirms their place in the scene that never died.
The release opens with “Mayday,” a primal scream in the face of police brutality. The second track, “Close Only Counts in Horseshoes and Hand Grenades,” a catchy, tongue in cheek look at dating after the end of a relationship, with a catchy, bouncy chorus made for singing along, a track with an earworm chorus you’ll find yourself singing under your breath.
Anchoring THE FORGOTTEN is the title track, a song centering immigration detention centers and children who arrive without the safety of relatives. The experimental, non-traditional structure and discordant, brutal vocal lines reflect the incense subject matter, intentionally unsettling listeners without losing the heart or energy. A saucy cover of Dolly Parton’s “Nine to Five” closes out the release, a fresh take on an anti-capitalist classic. Punk isn’t dead, and The Lowcocks are living proof - THE FORGOTTEN is brash, defiant, and undeniably fresh.
