Punk Rock’n’Roll band Scared of Sharks has dropped their latest single, "Is Water Wet?", a high-energy track born from the band's signature humor and late-night banter. Originally hailing from Mogareeka, Scared of Sharks was formed in 2016 by Taylor Shwifty and his brother Jack Malolakis to play the Cobargo Folk Festival.
After relocating to Wollongong in 2017, the band spent several years playing gigs around the Illawarra region, including a notable performance at the now-defunct Rad Bar. Despite not taking things too seriously initially, Scared of Sharks released their first song, "Beach Wog," in 2021. Following Jack’s departure to travel Europe in late 2022, Taylor recruited Tim Jong Un on drums and Loui Crouton on bass, leading to a string of gigs up and down Australia's east coast.
"Is Water Wet?" is described by Taylor Shwifty as "a funny little punk rock'n'roll number born out of the silliest of late-night conversations (many of which took place at Rose Street), off our heads, thinking that we’re having a highly intellectual discussion when in fact we’re just carrying on like pork chops." The track exemplifies the band’s playful spirit and energetic style.
