Unholy Harakiri, one of the most promising names in extreme metal, has just released their latest work across all streaming platforms: "Higeki 悲劇" (Tragedy, in Japanese). This conceptual album marks a profound evolution for the band, merging the technical brutality of Deathcore with the narrative sophistication of traditional Asian arts.
Divided into four acts, "Higeki 悲劇" is inspired by the dramatic structure of classical Japanese plays, such as Noh and Kabuki theater. The work leads the listener through a visceral journey of trauma, suffering, devastation, and death. Sonically, the album is a powerful fusion of Deathcore, Metalcore, Downtempo, and Nu Metal, all wrapped in a cinematic atmosphere that amplifies the emotional weight of every composition.
The choice of title and structure is not merely aesthetic. In Japanese theater, the concept of Jo-ha-kyū (introduction, rupture, and climax) dictates the pace of performances—a dynamic that Unholy Harakiri has masterfully transposed into extreme metal. The album reflects the "imagination of catastrophe" recurring in Japanese culture, addressing heavy themes with the necessary aggression of the genre.
About Unholy Harakiri: Formed in 2020 by Yukio Hara, Rafael Danti, and Maikon Campioni in Brazil, Unholy Harakiri quickly stood out for their striking visual identity and energetic performances. Following the success of their debut album Ketsuro (2022), the band consolidated their presence in the São Paulo underground scene, performing on renowned stages such as La Iglesia. With the release of "Higeki 悲劇," the trio reaffirms their position as an innovative force in modern deathcore, now preparing to expand their tour schedule to other Brazilian states, bringing their immersive and mosh-pit-heavy experience to new audiences.
