Melodic metal band XDB is entering a new chapter with the release of their latest single, “Love of My Life,” now available on all streaming platforms. Blending soaring melodies, heartfelt emotion, and the band’s signature musicianship, the track showcases XDB at their most expressive. Accompanying the release is a striking lyric video on YouTube, pairing vivid imagery with the song’s intimate themes and giving fans a deeper connection to its message.
Fronted by vocalist Rob Kane and powered by the virtuosic guitar work of Xander Demos, XDB brings together a lineup rich in talent and dynamic energy. With Brendan Callahan on keys, Emily Stroup on bass, and Guy Cole on drums, the band merges melodic storytelling with hard-hitting rock elements. Their new single not only highlights their technical strength and emotional depth but also sets the stage for an exciting creative phase—making this the perfect moment to sit down with XDB and explore the story behind “Love of My Life.”
What inspired the lyrics and emotion behind "Love of My Life"? It's kind of an interesting story. Myself and vocalist Rob Kane write most of our music. A lot of times, songs will evoke emotion in people and many times, those songs are more sad in nature speaking of lost love, breakups and things like that. We wanted to do something different and make something really upbeat and positive. That's not to say that there's not a bunch of inspiring, positive and upbeat songs out there - but we just wanted to include ours.
Xander, how did you approach the guitar parts for this track? I wanted to have something that was simple in the rhythm parts and then do a fun, memorable solo section that added technical aspects as well as melodic passages. The solo was loosely inspired by Dream Theater's "Under a Glass Moon" (performed by John Petrucci).
What was the main idea behind the lyric video's visual style? We were trying to get something ethreal and even otherworldly with two people just caught in the moment - realizing that they're the love of each other's lives. Just living in that perfect, blissful moment.
How does the band's lineup influence your songwriting and sound? Great question! I think the makeup of the band makes a huge difference. We have three lead singers (myself, Rob Kane and Emily Stroup) and we write for vocal-style AOR with a touch of progressive rock/metal and because we have a female vocalist with an extraordinary range, the possibilities are endless. I feel that we aren't bound by anything at this time!
After this release, what can fans expect next from XDB? We are working with promoters to get on a few tours and to get the music out there. Plus, we have become a writing machine as of late so we are going to be getting ready to do another album soon.
