California based 90’s style melodic punk band, Carry the 9, is releasing their first new song in nearly four years. “Roots” is about how no matter how tough life can be, our roots keep us strong and allow us to keep moving forward. We don’t need to stay rooted in where we are, but we can take our roots with us wherever we want to be. Says vocalist Kevin Levins “most of my lyrics are somewhat personal. I usually write about experiences I’ve been through that a lot of people can relate to.” “Roots” is no exception.

Carry the 9 formed in late 2018 when Kevin and Sean ended up living near each other again after 20 plus years. They started jamming and writing songs and soon recruited bass player, Jose, via a Craigslist ad. Jeremy was a childhood friend of Sean’s and was added to the lineup in late 2019. Since then, Carry the 9 has played shows up and down the Central Coast of California as well as a few other stops. All 4 members grew up during and still have a great affection for 90s style melodic/skater type punk rock with such influences as Lagwagon, NUFAN, Pulley, Rise Against, Good Riddance, NOFX, etc. They released 3 songs in 2021 and are currently working on 4 more with Kevin Thayer at Tantrum Recordings in California. The first one of the new songs is “Roots”, with the rest to be released throughout 2025.
