Berlin’s own Späti-rock pioneers, Ponte Pilas are a Scottish/Ecuadorian quartet made up of Calum Bolland, Ismael Rivera, Daniel Rivera and Alejandro Iturralde who come together in salute to the spirit of rock ’n’ roll. ‘In Vino Veritas’ is the first single off their brand new EP (out February 2024) and comes with an official video directed by Stefanie Schmid Rincon (Daði Freyr, Laura Lee & the Jettes).
After a number of successful previous releases including an EP and debut album, the band are no newbies to the live scene having built a receptive audience and support from international press and radio including Clash Magazine, Earmilk, Visions, Tonspion among many other outlets.
Written by the band collectively and produced and mixed by Lucas Piedra Cueva, Grammy winner 2023 with Jorge Drexel and who worked on the full EP. ‘In Vino Veritas’ describes a familiar sense of anomie, a disconnect from the prevailing wisdom of the post-modern cult of the individual. Since when did a stable income and a mortgage become the deciding factors of one’s happiness? Our narrator, tired of the repetitive conversations and point-scoring of his social milieu finds a new lease of life in the street vagabonds he encounters in the night: their alcohol-soaked wisdom provides relief from conventional dogmas. In these new voices, he discovers a henceforth obscured truth, he looks up to the stars and realizes his cosmological insignificance and the beautiful absurdity of life for the first time. The pissed-up scripture allows him to see the world in-front of him clearly for the first time... or is it just the booze talking?
